How to Earn Your Graduate, REALTOR Institute (GRI) Designation
By Jim Luger, CDEI
Certified Distance Education Instructor and Real Estate Professional for 35 years

You’ll stand out with the GRI designation
The GRI designation is a powerful tool to attract and build new business. You'll increase your skill level across the entire landscape of real estate with in-depth training in legal and regulatory issues, technology, professional standards, and the sales process.

When proudly displaying your GRI Designation, you’ll be recognized by both colleagues and clients as an outstanding real estate professional. The advanced practices and real-world knowledge you’ll learn in your GRI courses will help you stand out from your competitors, and stay one step ahead of them. According to a 2012 study by the National Association of REALTORS®, the median income of GRI designees was $61,000, compared to the median income of non-designees of $33,500.

The REALTOR® Institute has been in existence for more than twenty-five years and has graduated thousands of REALTORS®.  Minnesota has the third highest number of GRI designees as a percentage of state membership.

Earning your GRI designation is more convenient than ever
You may now take live GRI classes through Minnesota Association of REALTORS® or online GRI courses through Continuing Ed Express—or a combination of courses from both—and you can complete them in any order. Enrolling in either live or online courses is easy through the MNREALTOR.com website.

There are 15 required courses, and you’ll choose 5 elective courses from a variety of choices. Each course awards you 3 GRI credits toward the total of 60 credits needed to earn your designation. And you’ll get a bonus: each course is also approved for Minnesota continuing education credits.

GRI is a lifetime designation, with no annual fee
The GRI designation is the only NAR designation with state-specific content and the only one which does not have a yearly fee attached. You pay a one-time $15 application fee upon completion of your courses and you hold the designation for life.

As a GRI designee, you’ll have the privilege of using GRI logos, customizable marketing materials, advertising graphics, press releases, and the ability to join an exclusive nation-wide network with other GRI designees through NAR. A GRI pin is also available from NAR.

Keeping track of your progress is easy
When you complete a GRI course from the Minnesota Association of REALTORS® (MNAR) or Continuing Ed Express, each will keep track of GRI credits earned through them. When you accumulate a total of 60 GRI credits, you simply apply for your designation through MNAR.
